This week, I took a local business’ website and gave it a quick design refresh — not a full redesign, just small, intentional tweaks in Figma. It took less time than you’d think, and the result was a site that felt cleaner, more trustworthy, and easier to digest.
Here’s the big idea:
You don’t need to rebuild your website to make it better. Sometimes, a few simple changes can go a long way.
Watch the Video Walkthrough
If video isn’t your thing, you can check out their live site here, and view the mockup of my final design here.
It’s important to remind you — this was not a total redesign. I merely took the website as-is and made small layout and design adjustments.
To summarize some of the key improvements I made, here’s the top 5 areas to consider:
1. Simplify your hero section
Ditch busy backgrounds and long headings. Use clear, concise messaging and make your call-to-action button stand out. That first impression matters!
2. Prioritize key conversions
Before, their contact form was buried half way down the page. We can’t expect visitors to scroll that far to find it, so you should always prioritize your key conversion placement — what action do you want them to take? And is it clear and easy to find?
3. Fix spacing and alignment
It may sound so simple, but inconsistency in the way you layout your content can cause any great design to collapse. Misaligned content and inconsistent padding make a site feel unpolished.
Some sections full-width, some left-aligned and some centered — keep it consistent and lay content out with a purpose.
4. Break up long sections or similar content
If you’re stacking rows of images or dense paragraphs, consider trimming it down. Let each section breathe and allow the visitor to digest the information without so much clutter.
Additionally, if you have content that’s similar, try to group it together to make it a single, really great section.
5. Improve readability & consistency
When it comes to readability, always use proper text hierarchy — headlines should be larger and scannable, body text should be easy to read. And remember, white space is your friend!
As always, consistency is the overall focus — when you design a page without it, the layout is just a big eyesore with no real focus and intention. But a consistent, cohesive design allows a visitor to enjoy your content and navigate with ease.
Not sure where to start?
Send me an email with your website link and I’ll send back one small change you can make that will have a big impact.
Until next time,
