How to Remove a Blog Post in WordPress

by Adam Wright

If you’re using WordPress and want to remove a blog post from your blog page, there are a couple of ways to do it. Whether you want to delete the post entirely or just hide it from public view while keeping it in your dashboard, this guide will walk you through the process.

Removing a Blog Post Completely

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard: Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Go to Posts: On the left-hand side, you’ll see a menu option for “Posts.” Click on it to see a list of all your blog posts.
  3. Find the Post: Locate the post you want to remove. For example, you might want to remove the default “Hello World” post that comes with a new WordPress installation.
  4. Delete the Post: Hover over the post title and click “Trash.” This will completely remove the post from your site.

Now, if you go back to your blog page and refresh it, the post will be gone.

Hiding a Blog Post Without Deleting It

If you want to keep the post in your dashboard but hide it from the public, you can change its status to a draft.

  1. Quick Edit: Hover over the post title and click on “Quick Edit.”
  2. Change Status: In the Quick Edit options, find the “Status” dropdown. Change it from “Published” to “Draft.”
  3. Update: Click the blue “Update” button.

Now, the post will be marked as a draft and will no longer be visible on your site. However, you can still view and edit it from your dashboard. When you refresh your blog page, the post will be hidden.

Republishing a Hidden Post

If you decide to republish a post, you can easily bring it back to your blog page.

  1. Quick Edit: Go back to the post in your dashboard and click on “Quick Edit” again.
  2. Change Status: Change the status from “Draft” to “Published.”
  3. Update Date (Optional): If you want the post to appear at the top of your blog page as the most recent post, you can also update the publish date to today’s date.
  4. Update: Click the blue “Update” button.

Now, when you refresh your blog page, the post will be back, and if you updated the date, it will appear as the most recent post.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can either remove a blog post entirely or hide it from public view while keeping it in your dashboard. Additionally, you can easily republish hidden posts whenever you’re ready to bring them back. These methods give you flexibility in managing your content without losing any of your work.
